Our Rental Process

Getting Started

Hancock County Housing Authority takes seriously our responsibilty to make available safe, affordable housing for qualified residents of Hancock County.

To make the process easier, we make several documents available for download. If you would like to make your visit to our offices as productive as possible, download these documents, print them, and then fill them out before coming to our offices.

NOTE: Please be sure to complete and sign a criminal background check for every member of the household who is 18 years of age and older.


Senior & Disabled Housing

If you are applying for Senior or disabled housing, please furnish the following with your application for ALL household members:

  • Current Benefit Statement from Social Security
  • Proof of any and all income (pensions, annuities, etc.)
  • Copy of Birth Certificate
  • Copy of Social Security Card
  • Copy of Driverís License or State issued photo I.D.

Single & Family Housing

If you are applying for single or family housing, please furnish the following with your application for ALL household members:

  • Proof of any and all income (Wages, TANF, Child Support, Alimony, etc.)
  • Copy of Birth Certificate
  • Copy of Social Security Card
  • Copy of Driverís License or State issued photo I.D.

Your application may take up to 2 weeks to process. You will be notified, in writing, as to the determination that is made regarding your application.

  • Are Laundry Facilities Provided?
    Yes, all of our properties have on-site laundry facilities.

  • Do the apartments have air conditioning?
    Yes, some are equiped with central air while most have window a/c units.

  • Are their income requirements?
    Yes, there are income requirements. Please see our rental process page for more information.
